The application type and distance a truck is expected to travel dictates the size of the truck fuel tanks. Long haul trucks have a larger fuel capacity which goes up to over 300-1000 liters due to the extensive interstate travel they do and the fuel they burn. For example, semi-trailer tractors and cross-country freight transportation tend to have 600 liter fuel tanks which allow the trucks to efficiently cover long distances with fewer stops. However, for regional or local delivery trucks, the range is considerably lower at about 200-400 liters. The balance between fuel tank size and tank weight is always carefully considered and calculated. Manufacturers pay close attention to factors such as payload, aerodynamics, and the overall design in compliance to the balance of truck size.
